No. The straw is only needed if you want to drink while the bottle is upright. Without it, you can drink directly from the spout by tilting the bottle. Not all ION8 bottles include a straw as standard — compatible straws are available separately for bottles that support them.

Insulated, vacuum-sealed stainless steel bottles are designed to hold temperature for extended periods. Recyclon and single-wall steel bottles keep drinks cooler or warmer than an open cup, but not for hours in the way an insulated bottle does.

Stainless steel components are made from Stainless Steel 304, an industry-standard grade which, like all stainless steel, does contain nickel.

The filter straw reduces chlorine, organic contaminants, and unpleasant tastes or odours, but doesn't kill bacteria, so it's intended for drinking water only. Each filter lasts for up to 120 litres — around two months at 2 litres a day. Filters shouldn't be washed with detergent, as this can leave residue in the fibre membrane.
